No matter how you book your trip be it through a travel agent or using your clearwirelessinternet.net internet to score deals, there’s a lot to be had when you reach Sin City. The good news is there’s a lot to do in Vegas if you don’t gamblehere are a few of our favorites:
Eat: Las Vegas is emerging as one of the nation’s top food sceneswe know, surprising, right? Between Wolfgang Puck and all his famous foodie friends and all their namesake restaurants here and the cheap but delicious buffets you can find all down the strip Vegas is a foodie paradise.
Shop: But not just for tacky souvenirs. With so many name brand stores posting retail locations inside the large hotels it’s a shopper’s heaven in Vegas. You can find anything from Banana Republic to Gucci – all in air conditioned malls.
Sun: Vegas has developed quite a pool scene over the last few years. Some of the city’s best hotels are crafting themselves as the cool pool to hang out at during the day so try the Palms or the Hard Rock if you’re looking for action.

Las Vegas can be a very romantic place if you know where to go. One great place for romance is the Paris Las Vegas. The most romantic thing to do at this resort is to go on the Eiffel Tower ride. The tower itself is a reproduction of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France. Las Vegas’s tower is half the size the real one is but provides a great view of the Las Vegas strip. Guests ride the elevator to the top of the tower with an on-board guide who points out Las Vegas landmarks. The 11th floor of the Eiffel Tower in Vegas is home to the Eiffel Tower Restaurant. This is the perfect place for a romantic dinner for two.

Another romantic spot in Las Vegas is The Venetian. This resort offers both indoor and outdoor gondola rides to guests. The ride takes guests on a leisurely journey down The Venetian’s Grand Canal where they will float under bridges, beside cafes and through lovely streetscapes. A singing gondolier accompanies guests on the gondola.

There are other romantic spots in Las Vegas, but Paris and The Venetian are the number one places for romance on the strip in Vegas.

The MGM Grand Hotel and Casino is Las Vegas’s newest resort. Opened in 1993, the MGM Grand in Las Vegas is the world’s second largest hotel. The MGM Grand casino floor is the biggest one in Las Vegas. When it first opened, there was a full sized amusement park behind the MGM Grand, designed to provide entertainment for visitors under the age of 21. By 2002, MGM had decided to eliminate the amusement park and replace it with a luxury hotel/condominium complex. The original entrance to the MGM Grand was the mouth of Leo the Lion, which is MGM’s mascot. The entrance was later remodeled because Chinese visitors did not want to enter the casino through the lion’s mouth due to the belief that it is bad luck to enter the mouth of a lion. The MGM lion now sits at the hotel’s entrance as a statue 45 feet tall, weighing 50 tons. This makes it the United State’s largest bronze statue. When MGM Grand first opened, it was decorated in a Wizard of Oz theme. This was later changed because the hotel wanted to appeal to more mature guests. MGM Grand now bills itself as “The City of Entertainment.”

Las Vegas has always been associated with the mob. The association between Las Vegas and the mob started due to the “Great Migration” which traveled through Ellis Island from 1880 to 1924. This migration was made up of Slavic Jews and Italians moving to eastern cities. Because of discrimination, many of the people who migrated to the eastern cities could only get low-paying jobs. As a result many of them turned to gambling and became mobsters. A friend of mobster Al Capone’s, Frank Detra opened the first casino on the strip. Jewish mobster Benjamin Seigel moved to Las Vegas and took over the town’s horse racing bets in the 1940s. Seigel’s partners in crime was his childhood friend Moe Sedway and Meyer Lansky. Together, the two took control of the El Cortez casino and set up illegal gambling operations in downtown Las Vegas. Eventually the majority of the hotel casinos in Las Vegas had a connection to Lansky and the rest of the mob, in one way or another. In 1971 mobster Anthony Spilotro moved to Vegas and opened a gift shop in the Circus Circus Casino. He was quickly blacklisted by state regulators because he allegedly committed 20 murders.

It is possible to travel to Las Vegas without spending a fortune. There are some ways to make it a fun but frugal trip. The first step is to find an affordable hotel. Many hotels within a few miles of the strip are much cheaper than the ones on the main strip. Along with cheaper hotels come cheaper places to eat. Generally speaking, the further away you get from the strip, the cheaper the hotels and restaurants are. Another secret to visiting Las Vegas on a budget is to go around the middle of December. This is the time of year when the hotels cost less than they do most of the time.

Another key to visiting Las Vegas on a budget is to scour the Internet for coupons. There are many websites that offer coupons for Las Vegas hotels, transportation, restaurants, shows and various attractions around town. Visitors can also purchase Las Vegas coupon books online before arriving in Vegas. Many times the casinos will give out coupons to guests staying there and people who sign up for the casino’s players card.

Las Vegas may seem like an expensive vacation destination, but it can be done on a budget.
